“Destruction is also creation.”― Marcel Duchamp
Put simply, dadaism is a movement in art and literature based on deliberate irrationality and negation of traditional artistic values. When I look at collage I see something that is inherently dada. It takes already made pieces of things that have been abandoned or lost and reclaims them by redefining their artistic purpose.
In this class we will learn about the art philosophy of dadaism and will apply it to the art of collage. We will learn about this philosophy as it is seen in painting, in film, in literature and more and we will learn how to make collages with a dadaist framework in mind.
