Writing Boot Camp is a three-day, in-person writing workshop. These sessions will take place at Voyagers in early September, before the fall classes begin. The boot camp will give you hands-on, interactive practice at every stage of the essay writing process.
Each workshop session will be 1-2 hours long. In each session we’ll work together as a group as well as independently (but don’t worry, you won’t have to share your writing unless you want to). Parents and students can also schedule some one-on-one time to discuss writing goals, struggles, or areas of focus.
Some topics we’ll cover include:
Finding a topic to write about
Writing from prompts
Writing a strong thesis statement
Finding support for your main idea
Free-writing/pre-writing
Outlining/mind-mapping (and other ways to organize your thoughts)
Transition statements
Introductions and conclusions
Editing/revising
Grammar and punctuation
Word choice and sentence/paragraph structure
All of this will be broken down into bite-sized pieces!
All materials will be provided, but you might choose to bring something for notetaking. Also – bring a lunch!
