Students who have taken The Transatlantic Slave Trade, Reconstruction, and Segregation and Jim Crow will have a strong foundation in the African American Civil Rights Movement. In this final course in the sequence, each participant will choose a different U.S. civil rights movement and conduct an independent, multi-genre research project describing the history of that movement using text, art, photography, and video. Past research topics have included gender equality, LGBTQ+ equality, disability activism, the Japanese American experience, and the history of young people with autism fighting for their rights in the educational system.
